2017 Jeff Lynne’s ELO concert video to get its US television debut on Showtime this month

Carsten Windhorst/SHOWTIMEIt’s Showtime for Jeff Lynne’s ELO! The British band’s 2017 concert video Wembley or Bust will get its U.S. television debut on the cable network on Friday, July 27, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. It subsequently will be available on demand and via streaming.

The film captures a June 2017 show that the current Electric Light Orchestra incarnation played in front of a crowd of 60,000 people at the famous Wembley Stadium near London.

The concert featured a career-spanning set packed with the band’s many hits, including “Evil Woman,” “Livin’ Thing,” “Do Ya,” “Sweet Talkin’ Woman,” “Telephone Line,” “Turn to Stone,” “Don’t Bring Me Down” and “Mr. Blue Sky.” It also included a rendition of the title track to the latest Jeff Lynne’s ELO studio album, 2015’s When I Was a Boy, and the Traveling Wilburys hit “Handle with Care,” which Lynne co-wrote.

In addition to performance footage, Wembley or Bust features interview segments with Lynne and some of his current ELO band mates, who share how they feel about working with the multitalented Rock & Roll Hall of Famer.

In a preview clip from the film posted on Showtime’s YouTube channel, Jeff notes, “I’m not a hard band leader to please now. I mean, I am really — I don’t let anything slide. If there’s something that’s bugging me, I’ll be right there to say, ‘Can you not do that?’…But it doesn’t happen very often, because they’re so good, and they’ve got infinite patience. They learn everything so well that I’ve got every faith in them. Total confidence.”

Wembley or Bust was released on CD, DVD and Blu-ray in November 2017.

Jeff Lynne’s ELO kicks off a U.S. summer tour on August 2 in Oakland, California. The trek runs through an August 24 concert in Philadelphia.
