When I was a kid, I loved my Sony Walkman. Popping in a cassette and heading out to go hang with friends or bike around the lake, I was able to take my music with me.
Well, apparently, I’m not the only one who has such fond memories. 2019 is the 40th anniversary of the Walkman, and Sony is bringing it back – although it won’t play tapes. But it does have a vintage look, just with updated technology and a touch screen.

The Sony Walkman helped changed the way we listened to music when it launched 40 years ago — and the original personal music player’s design is as iconic today as it ever was. Maybe that’s why Sony is debuting a new, modern Walkman with a case based on that same classic design. It’s not just a case, however. The portable music player will also have a special cassette tape user interface and screensaver — specifically it seems to have extra buttons patched on to the side to mimic tape-deck controls. Apart from that, it’s got a 3.6-inch HD display, USB-C charging and a battery life of 26 hours. It also comes with access to the Walkman store for more music. #walkman #sonywalkman #40th #sonywalkman40 #mp3 #digitalaudio #digitalmusic #retro #casette #tapedeck #cassetteplayer
I’m definitely adding “Walkman” to my Christmas Wish List.
